SBPD investigating shots fired on Eddy Street early this morning

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Around 12:40 a.m., the South Bend Police Department responded to and investigated the report of shots fired in the 1100 block of E. Angela Blvd., in Eddy Street Commons.

No injuries were reported but authorities discovered a window in the entryway of Embassy Suites damaged by apparent gunfire.

The SBPD Violent Crimes Unit will take over this investigation.

Separate from this incident, South Bend Police had an increased presence in Eddy Street Commons and surrounding areas before, during and after yesterday’s football game due to last weekend’s disturbances and gunfire in the same area.

Saturday’s increase led to 13 arrests within Eddy Street Commons, for offenses ranging from Criminal Trespass to Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.

Three handguns, one of which was reported stolen, and a rifle were also recovered.

Officers reported one of the individuals arrested had an outstanding warrant.

These all remain active and ongoing investigations.
