SOUTH BEND, Ind. – South Bend Community School Corporation is restructuring their athletic department.
The abrupt move announced on Monday will terminate the athletic director positions at the four South Bend public high schools.
The school district will create dean of students positions to replace the athletic director position.
“I don’t feel that it’s right,” South Bend native Samuel Brown said.
The School Corporation did not address the move at Monday’s meeting but addressed the move in a press release after that said the following:
“These are difficult decisions that we know affect personnel who have been of service to South Bend Schools. However, we believe this restructuring is an important step to ensure the future success of the district. We remain fully committed to athletics. New positions will provide greater support and flexibility for both athletics and academics.”
The School Corporation says the current athletic directors will be able to apply for the new role with other qualified candidates.
The School Corporation tells ABC57 News that they will release more information regarding the matter on Tuesday afternoon.
