NOW: 10 people vying for 4 seats on the South Bend Community School Corporation board

A total of 4 seats will be up for the South Bend Community School Corporation board this election: two At-Large positions, one District 3 position and one District 4 position. The general election is the only election held since school board members don't run on a "party" ticket. Every school board member of the South Bend Community School Corporation serves for 4 years. 

Members of the Board of School Trustees receive an annual salary of $2,000. In addition, for attendance at regular and special meetings Board Members receive $112. Members attending Executive Sessions receive $62. 

For this election, both incumbent representatives holding the At-Large seat are running for reelection, John Anella and Rudy Monterrosa. Four other candidates are running against them, Desmond Upchurch, Derrick Perry, Jeanette McCullough, and Faye Anglin. 

District 3 incumbent, Leslie Wesley is also running for reelection. One other candidate, William Sniadecki is running against her for the seat.

District 4 incumbent, Stephanie Ball is also running for reelection. Two other candidates, Annette Malone and Conner Stigner are running against her for her seat.

At large candidates:

John Anella

  • Anella is the current representative on the South Bend Community School Corporation.
  • Anella was appointed to the board in 2014. He ran and won re-election in the general election in 2016.
  • He is running for re-election for the 2020 election.
  • He is currently the Senior Vice President  at Investment Officer Wells Fargo Advisors
  • Anella graduated from John Adams High School in South Bend Indiana.
  • He graduated from the University of Notre Dame, majoring in Business & went to grad-school at Loyola University Chicago, MA in applied Social Psychology

Rudy Monterossa

  • Monterossa was appointment to be an at-large representative to the South Bend Community School Corporation in 2017.
  • He took over the role after the unexpected passing of the Maritza Robles, who held the seat with John Anella.
  • He currently serves as Board Secretary and Chair of the Safety and Security Committee.
  • Monterossa graduated from Bloomington High School in Bloomington, CA.
  • He attended Stanford University, graduating with a B.A in Psychology & was admitted to University of Notre Dame School of Law.

Desmond Upchurch

  • Upchurch filed for one of the at-large positions for the South Bend Community School Corporation 2020 general election
  • The positions are currently held by John Anella and Rudy Monterrosa.
  • He is retired from the  U.S. Army
  • He went to Ashford University in Arizona and graduated with a B.A. in Liberal Arts & an AA in General Studies at Central a Texas College

Derrick Perry

  • Perry field for one of the at-large positions for the South Bend Community School Corporation 2020 general election.
  • He is currently a Supervisor for Wraparound programs in Elkhart and St. Joseph Counties
  • He went to John Adams High School in South Bend, Indiana
  • He went to Northwood University in Midland, Michigan and graduated with a B.A. in Business Administration 

Jeanette McCullough

  • McCullough field for one of the at-large positions  for the South Bend Community School Corporation 2020 general election
  • She is a retired educator

Faye Anglin

  • Anglin field for one of the at-large positions  for the South Bend Community School Corporation 2020 general election
  • She is currently a case manager/mentor
  • She went to Bethel College and graduated with a B.A. in Organizational Management

District 3 candidates:

Leslie Wesley

  • Wesley currently holds the seat as the District 3 representative in the South Bend Community School Corporation since 2016.
  • She ran as a candidate against William Sniadecki last election, winning with 4,115 votes to then-incumbent Sniadecki’s 4,069. 
  • She is running for re-election against Sniadecki for this 2020 election.
  • She graduated from LaSalle High School in South Bend, Indiana.
  • Went to Indiana University Bloomington, graduating with a B.A in Liberal Arts.

William Sniadecki

  • Sniadecki was the District 3 representative on the South Bend Community School Corporation school board in 2016.
  • He filed for re-election, going against Scott Siler and Leslie Wesley. It was a close race, but lost in the general election to Wesley by only 46 votes.
  • He is running to take the seat of current incumbent, Leslie Wesley in the 2020 general election.
  • Sniadecki graduated from Washington High School in South bend and served in the U.S. military.


District 4 candidates:

Stephanie Ball

  • Ball currently holds the seat as the District 4 representative in the South Bend Community School Corporation sincerely year 2019.
  • She replaced then-incumbent Dawn Jones, who was elected as the South Bend City Clerk in a 4-2 vote against Jasmine Brown.
  • Ball is running for re-election for the 2020 general election
  • She is currently the Director of Homeownership with the South Bend Heritage Foundation
  • She went to The John Hopkins University and graduated with a B.A. in Sociology & a M.P.A in Non-Profit/Public Organizational Management from Indiana University South Bend 

Annette Malone

  • Malone field for the District 4 position for the South Bend Community School Corporation 2020 general election.
  • She ran for an at-large position for SBCSC back in 2016 and lost to John Anella and Maritza Robles.
  • She is currently the Owner at Reality Hair Concepts
  • She went to and graduated from Bethel College

Conner Stigner

  • Stinger field for the District 4 position for the South Bend Community School Corporation 2020 general election.
  • He is currently works in the Voter Registration office for St. Joseph County
  • He graduated from Clay High School in South Bend, IN
  • He went to and graduated from Indiana University South Bend.
