Republican funding bill fails in Senate, government on track to shut down on Wednesday

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Republican Funding Bill failed to pass in the Senate with a vote of 55 to 45, putting the government on track to shut down at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday.
Democrats are mostly unified in opposing the bill, as they continue to insist that any funding solution must include health care-related provisions. However, several Democrats crossed party lines and voted in favor of the clean funding bill.
Senators Catherine Cortez Masto and John Fetterman, both Democrats, voted for the bill, as did Senator Angus King, an independent who caucuses with Democrats.
Senator Rand Paul was the only Republican to vote against the bill.
