BUCHANAN, Mich. -- The Michigan Department of Transportation announced on Wednesday that a section of Niles-Buchanan Road will have lane closures and traffic shifts as crews begin work repairing the bridge that spans over US31 and connects the two towns.

The project will cost roughly $3.6 million and include bridge repairs, epoxy overlay, pin and hanger replacement, joint replacement, painting, pressure relief joints, silane treatment, substructure horizontal sealer, and approach replacement.

Work will begin on Tuesday, July 8 and is scheduled to conclude by Friday, Nov 7.

"Based on economic modeling, this investment is expected to directly and indirectly support 34 jobs," MDOT officials said.

"This project will repair and preserve the bridge, extending its service life and improving safety."
