NOW: Quarterback CJ Carr is making history and stacking up awards along the way

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Notre Dame football has shaken off its early-season struggles with back-to-back wins — and at the heart of the turnaround is freshman quarterback CJ Carr.
Carr has quickly become the talk of college football. He was named Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Week, a Manning Award Star of the Week, and landed on the Davey O’Brien Great 8 list after torching Arkansas with 354 passing yards and four touchdowns. His 294 yards in the first half were the third-most in program history.
Coaches and teammates say Carr is already ahead of his time. Running backs coach Ja’Juan Seider praised his preparation, calling him “a coach’s kid” who soaks everything in.
The numbers back it up. Carr leads all freshmen in yards per attempt, yards per completion, and passing efficiency, ranking in the top 20 nationally across the board. Meanwhile, Notre Dame’s 641 total yards against Arkansas were the most by any FBS team that weekend.
Next up: a home matchup with Boise State, where Carr will try to keep the Irish rolling and push Notre Dame over the .500 mark.
