Prosecutor’s office releases preliminary autopsy results for Mercedes Lain

MARSHALL COUNTY, Ind.—The Marshall County Prosecutor’s Office on Monday released the preliminary autopsy results for 11-month-old Mercedes Lain, who was found deceased in Starke County on August 18.
The preliminary results indicate that Mercedes' cause of death was blunt force injuries of the head and her manner of death was ruled a homicide, according to the prosecutor's office.
The autopsy was performed Friday in Fort Wayne.
Justin Miller, who was arrested during the investigation into Mercedes' disappearance, is being held in the Marshall County Jail. His bond was set at $100,000. His initial hearing is set for August 24 at 9 a.m.
Miller is facing a neglect of a dependent resulting in death, a Level 1 Felony, charge, according to the prosecutor's office.
Mercedes' parents, Tiffany Coburn and Kenneth Lain, were each arraigned on neglect charges on Friday.
