Present Pillars with local municipalities designate June as Men's Health Month in Berrien County

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. -- Present Pillars, along with local municipalities in Berrien County, has announced that June has been designated as Men's Health Month.

They are aiming to foster community commitment to men's wellness and preventative healthcare.

The decision to designate the month as Men's Health Month had support from local officials.

On the first day of the month, Benton Harbor Mayor Marcus Muhmad signed the proclamation designating June was Men's Health Month.

State Representative Joey Andrews of Michigan's 38th district expressed excitement, saying, "It's really cool to see all the local communities come together with the county and the city lining up on something that doesn't happen super often. So that's great. I'm always excited to support James [Gunter, executive director] and Present Pillars and all the great stuff they're doing here at the community."

Officials are hoping that the proclamation will lead to measures to address men's issues, such as disparities in health outcomes, promoting healthy lifestyle choices, early detection of health issues, and destigmatizing men's healthcare.
