ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. – Indiana Law School Professor and Expert on U.S. Elections, Democracy and Political Protests Nicholas Almendares joins ABC57 to talk about what is going on in the political climate.
ABC57’s Brian Conybeare asks Almendares his opinion on the comparisons of how police responded in DC yesterday and the way Black Lives Matter protests were handled over the summer; if the acts of the mobs rise to the level of sedition; and how much blame should be put on the president himself?
“Those are words like protest where we kind of find the meaning of them at the time, every situation is a little bit different,” said Professor Almendares. “When I think about the word protest – which I’ve been thinking about over the past year or so – I tend to go back to MLKs letter from Birmingham Jail where he lays out the most persuasive, kind of case for it and way you can understand it…”
