Police seize 79 animals from Dowagiac home

Dowagiac Police seized 79 animals from a home Thursday morning during an investigation into animal hoarding.

Police received complaints of several animals at a home in the 100 block of Lester Street.

During the investigation, officers determined the resident had several animals in poor condition in violation of city ordinances and state law, reports said.

The search warrant was served Thursday morning by police and Cass County Animal Control.

The following animals were seized:

• 48 Rabbits
• 10 Dogs
• 8 Cats
• 5 Quails
• 4 Guinea Pigs
• 2 Love Birds
• 1 Turtle
• 1 Chicken

Berrien County Animal Control took some of the animals due to the number of animals seized.

Information about the investigation will be submitted to the Cass County Prosecutor’s Office.
