One dead, two injured in stabbing; possible suspect in custody
KOSCIUSKO COUNTY, Ind. -- The subject of a search in the area of Fox Farm Road and CR 150 West in connection with a stabbing has been located and is in custody, according to the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office. One person died and two others were injured.
Deputies were searching for Vickie Louise Wooldridge following a stabbing that injured three people.
The sheriff’s office says the 911 center received a call just before 10 a.m. about a possible stabbing on West Side Drive, just outside of Warsaw.
“When something like this happens, it generally shocks the people who have caught the news,” Sgt. Christopher M. Francis said.
“I was just freaking out because I’ve never seen anything like this before,” neighbor Paul Slone said.
Paul Slone has lived in the quiet neighborhood for five years, but woke up to police lights, crime tape and dozens of officers set the scene for what would be some gruesome news.
When deputies arrived, they located three victims and at least one provided information about a suspect and a search began for Wooldridge.
“When officers arrived they found three victims,” Sgt. Francis said. “Those victims were promptly taken to the hospital.”
One of the victims was pronounced deceased at the home.
“I can confirm that there is one deceased individual from the home,” Sgt. Francis said.
The other two were transported to the hospital where one was treated, then released. The other victim remains hospitalized.
Wooldridge was located around noon southwest of the scene and was taken into custody without incident. Charges are pending.
Neighbors were shocked to discover that their own neighborhood was a crime scene.
“This neighborhood has always been peace and I’ve never seen anything like this before,” Slone said.
“It’s sad. I’ve shed a few tears today,” neighbor Brandon Rocha said.
For Rocha, the tragic news hits close to home.
“It’s just shocking, you know what I mean? You don’t expect this to happen,” Rocha said. “You don’t expect it to happen to especially someone you’re close with.”
Rocha said he knows the family living inside the home of Westside drive and the suspect and described Woolridge as quiet and laid back.
“Just makes you stop and think—don’t take life for granted, you know? Here today and gone tomorrow,” Rocha said. “You never know what’s going to happen, you know?”
An autopsy on the victim will be conducted on Wednesday morning. The person's identity has not been released.
Warsaw Police Department, Winona Lake Police Department, Pierceton Police Department, Mentone Police Department, Indiana State Police, Lutheran EMS, Lutheran Air Ambulance, Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory, and the Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office assisted in the search and investigation.
