Plymouth man charged with murder, arson after allegedly stabbing woman to death

PLYMOUTH, Ind. --- Duane Longacre, 35, of Plymouth has been charged with murder, arson, and resisting arrest after allegedly stabbing Jill McCarty to death with a machete.

Police responded to a home on N. Plum Street just after 9 a.m. Sunday in response to reports of a stabbing. When officials arrived on scene, they found Longacre shouting outside a window and smoke billowing from the home. He then tried to flee the scene and was tased, arrested, and taken to the Marshall County Jail.

According to court documents, a man who was inside the home at the time of the incident told police Longacre hit McCarty with a machete multiple times before dragging her to the bathtub and setting the house on fire in multiple places.

McCarty's body was discovered in the bathtub after fire crews got the flames under control.

In an interview with police, Longacre would not admit to murder but did admit to dragging the body.

He told authorities he needed to speak with a higher power "like President Donald Trump."

Longacre is due in court Tuesday at 1:15 for his initial hearing.

An autopsy for McCarty is scheduled for Tuesday morning.
