Peru woman dies in Fulton County crash Tuesday evening

FULTON COUNTY, Ind. -- The Fulton County Sheriff's Office says the call came in just before 8 p.m. Tuesday night of an "injury-involved crash on U.S. 31, at the intersection of Southway 31.
"Officers arrived within minutes to locate one of the drivers, unconscious and unresponsive," authorities said.
A preliminary investigation indicates a silver Ford Escape driven by a 25-year-old Coldwater, Mich. man was traveling south in the passing lane on U.S. 31 near Southway 31.
"For an undetermined reason, a red Nissan Kicks driven by 55-year-old Tina Adkins, of Peru, was stopped in the southbound passing lane at the intersection," authorities said. "The Ford collided with the Nissan's passenger side, causing the Nissan to come to rest on the south side of the intersection and the Ford to come to rest in the median."
The driver pf the Ford sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Woodlawn Hospital.
Adkins was pronounced deceased at the crash scene by medical personnel.
Authorities say the investigation is ongoing, but neither the consumption of alcoholic beverages nor narcotics are suspected of contributing to the crash.
