Power restoration continues for Michigan residents affected by Tuesday morning storms

UPDATE 9:30 p.m. -- MEC is reporting about 230 customers remain out of power. Most of the remaining outages are in the townships of Flowerfield, Portage, and Prairie Ronde.

"Crews have found approximately 36 broken poles so far," the company said. "A crew will work through the night on emergencies, with restoration efforts and pole replacements continuing in full force early tomorrow morning."?

UPDATE: Outage numbers have been updated as of 4:02 p.m., Tuesday.

As of 3:38 p.m., Tuesday, MEC reports about 900 customers are still without power.

ORIGINAL STORY: Midwest Energy and Communications (MEC) reports around 2,300 customers are currently without power due to storms in southwest Michigan, Tuesday morning.

Officials say the largest outages are in the townships of Porter (Van Buren County), Decatur, Flowerfield, Paw Paw, Prairie Ronde, and Fabius.

MEC crews have found about 14 broken poles so far and are assessing damage to begin the restoration process.

MEC officials also recommend seeking alternative accommodations for the night if necessary.

Officials state you should stay at least 50 feet away from any downed power lines as they may be live with electricity. You should also be aware of power lines on your property before you begin cleanup.
