Police identify pedestrian killed by train in Mishawaka

UPDATE: Police confirmed 43-year-old Gary Monaghan Jr. of South Bend died after being hit by the train. He was walking close to the tracks at the time of the incident. The conductor said he sounded his horn multiple times when he saw the man but was unsuccessful in alerting him to move to a safe area.

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. - One person was hit by a train at the West Street Crossing around 3:49 a.m. EST this morning. 

Nine crossings were previously blocked by a stalled train, but they have since been reopened.
