UPDATE: The South Bend Police Department announced Thursday morning that the investigation has been handed over to the FACT Team and the victim has been identified as 19-year-old Stephen Michael Dunifin, of South Bend.

ORIGINAL: SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- One person has died after crashing their motorcycle Wednesday night. 

Authorities say around 7:15 p.m., South Bend police responded to a call of a crash on Eddy Street near Jefferson Intermediate School.

According to authorities, the driver was traveling southbound on Eddy Street when the rider lost control and collided with a vehicle traveling northbound. 

The driver was the only occupant of the bike and died on scene succumbing to injuries. 

At this time, speed is believed to be a contributing factor, and the crash remains under investigation.
