Notre Dame will travel to Miami Aug. 31 for 2025 season opener

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The University of Notre Dame announced on Thursday that the 2025 football season will open with a Labor Day Weekend matchup in Miami against the Hurricanes.

The two programs will play on Sunday, Aug .31 at 7:30 p.m. ET at Hard Rock Stadium on ABC. It will mark the 28th meeting between the two teams.

According to the Notre Dame Athletic Department, the Irish own a record of 18-8-1 in the all-time series against the Hurricanes, with the most recent meeting in 2017 (a 41-8 Miami win).

  • The series between the two programs has seen several ranked matchups, with nine such meetings occurring when both teams have been ranked in the AP Top 25.
  • Notre Dame is 6-7-1 in the series when playing an away game vs. Miami.
  • The Irish also have a 1-2 record in Hard Rock Stadium, with its most recent appearance there in the 2025 CFP Semifinal at the Orange Bowl, a 27-24 win over No. 5 Penn State.
  • Notre Dame is 114-17-5 (.857) in season openers and has won seven of its last eight season openers.
  • 2025 marks the fifth-straight season the Irish will start a season away from Notre Dame Stadium (2021 at Florida State, 2022 at Ohio State, 2023 vs. Navy at Aviva Stadium in Dublin, 2024 at Texas A&M). It is the first time in program history that the Irish have started five-straight seasons away from Notre Dame Stadium.
