Notre Dame fans react to championship loss
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- It was a hard-fought battle, but Notre Dame came up short in the College Football Playoff Championship game.
The loss has left fans across the country, especially right here in Michiana, heartbroken.
"It's heartbreak. No one thought we would make it this far at all so we're going to rejoice in that. That's maybe for tomorrow and a little bit after now. Right now, we're just trying to let the heartbreak sink in a little," Notre Dame fan Charles Fink.
This was the Fighting Irish's first championship appearance since 2013, as they were seeking their first title since 1988.
For Notre Dame fans, the season brought hope, pride and excitement.
Local bars and restaurants were packed to watch their team bring their trophy back to the 574.
Fink says despite the loss; he's looking forward to the future.
"Marcus Freeman really sets this program on a new trajectory and there is a very bright future ahead for us," Fink said.
