BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- No. 4 Indiana hosts Western Kentucky for a Week 3 tuneup ahead of Big Ten play. The Hoosiers are hoping to build off of the shutout statement they made against Howard last Saturday, where they surrendered just four first downs.

Indiana’s defense shook off the rust in their second time out, tallying 5 sacks and 12 tackles for loss. According to Head Coach Curt Cignetti, those are the type of strides he was looking for after allowing 367 total yards to North Texas in their season-opener.

“Once the game became a box game, we stuffed the run, harassed the quarterback. Had 12 TFLs and five sacks. Deflected a pass, ran back for a touchdown. I think the defense in general, the D-line, the linebackers, and the DBs all took a major step forward,” said Cignetti.

On offense, new quarterback Josh Hoover tossed four touchdowns last week against Howard. Hoover has eight on the year, which is tied for fourth in FBS. Indiana has scored on 15 of 19 drives to start the season, yet Cignetti believes Hoover’s ceiling is much higher than what he’s shown the first two weeks.

“Obviously a lot of guys got to score,” Cignetti added. “But I think he’d be the first to tell you it wasn’t his best game. There were three or four reads that ought to be pretty basic that we didn’t make, that we can make. He made some really good plays, too.”

Indiana has not trailed yet this season. They are one of five FBS teams to win each of their first 2 games by 35 or more points this season. No. 4 Indiana will kick things off against WKU at 4pm ET on Saturday, September 19.
