NIPSCO pledges to improve safety of its pipelines

INDIANA — NIPSCO is pledging to improve the safety of its pipelines Indiana after settling with the state for violations.

The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission and NIPSCO agreed to a $900,000 fine for past violations.

That is the highest civil penalty in the history of Indiana.

The state says the money will go toward its general fund.

The IURC claimed NIPSCO failed to keep accurate maps and records of its underground facilities.
