UPDATE: Victim identified in N. Brookfield Street shooting

UPDATE: According to the South Bend Police Department the victim of the homicide in the 700 block of N. Brookfield Street has been identified as 48-year-old Jiffery T. Jones of South Bend.

The family has been notified, and an autopsy has been scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 27. 

This remains an active and ongoing investigation by the South Bend Police Department's Violent Crimes Unit.

ORIGINIAL STORY: SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Around 3:03 a.m. Sunday, South Bend police responded to a ShotSpotter notification in the 700 block of North Brookfield Street. 

Officers found a victim with an apparent gunshot wound. SBPD confirms the unidentified male was pronounced dead at the scene, despite life-saving measures. 

The Violent Crimes Unit is now handling the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to reach out to Michiana Crimestoppers at (574) 288-STOP.
