Secure Cities Partnership resource expansion assignment has been extended

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. – Michigan State Police has expanded its resources in Benton Harbor to include six troopers and one sergeant, in addition to troopers currently assigned to the Secure Cities Partnership. This expansion has been extended for two weeks.

Authorities from Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety, MSP and the Berrien County Prosecutors Office have all agreed to extend the assignment until Oct. 3.

MSP stands ready to offer any additional support, if necessary, beyond the scheduled end date of Oct. 3.

The move is in response to the positive impact on the community of Benton Harbor and its ongoing public safety challenges.

Benton Harbor is part of Michigan’s SCP, which is an initiative developed by MSP to address crime through a comprehensive system of ‘smart justice’ that recognizes the connection between enforcement and community engagement.
