SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Ivy Tech Community College South Bend held their Dental Hygiene Clinic Expansion Ribbon Cutting, celebrating the opening of their new dental office.

This new dental office will be a working clinic and a classroom for students to build their skills in their career of dentistry. 40 students will have the privilege to work in a larger space and the new technology offered to them.

With this clinic, Ivy Tech wants to ensure their students are capable to develop skills and experience to take after graduating and enter the workforce. As well as encourage more students to choose dentistry as a career path at Ivy Tech as there's a shortage of dentist statewide.

chancellor at the South Bend Ivy Tech campus, Patrick Englert, shares the benefits of the new facility.

"We increased to 18 seats in our dental clinic. The dental clinic serves two purposes. It's one to provide a lab space for our students to work out of, and two, it also serves as an actual clinic for the South Bend Elkhart community. So it's low cost to free for folks to come in and get X-rays, exams, and dental hygiene cleaning." says Englert.
