NASCAR driver Alex Bowman announces retirement following the 2027 season

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- NASCAR driver Alex Bowman is set to retire after this 2027 season.

Bowman, who drives the 48 car for Hendrick Motorsports, says he will drive one more season before his retirement. 

He is an eight-time winner in the cup series and has been driving for Hendrick Motorsports team full-time since 2018. Over the years, Bowman has fought injuries and health issues, including missing multiple races earlier this year due to dizziness and vertigo.

"I think with what went on in March, I feel like I, you know, kind of in my head had looked at this year being it quite a bit and talked about that. But yeah, just trying to make the best decision for me, and obviously the best decision for Hendrick Motorsports. I think I really want to end on a more positive note than kind of how this year has been," says Bowman.

Bowman currently sits 29 in the cup series points race this year, and despite those health issues, he will be competing in the Brickyard 400 on Sunday.
