Naked man repeatedly caught on camera in Mishawaka neighborhood
MISHAWAKA, Ind.-- A man in Mishawaka was caught five times walking naked through an alley in the early hours of the morning, captured on home security video.
Neighbors in the area, near the corner of Charlotte and Lawrence, say they have no idea who the man is.
They say, perhaps at first it was bizarre, even funny, but after five separate instances caught on camera, many are unnerved.
“It’s not what we would necessarily consider normal behavior, to strip down and go walking down an alley,” said Sgt. Steve Headley with the Mishawaka Police Department.
The most recent appearance was early Wednesday morning.
“Public nudity in and of itself, just appearing naked in public, is a class C misdemeanor, which is the lowest level misdemeanor in the state of Indiana,” Headley said.
Mishawaka police confirm they are aware of the situation, but they can only do so much.
“It’s just a thing of opportunity, basically, for us to be able to do anything about it, it’s going to have to be catch that person in the act,” Headley said.
Neighbors are unnerved, some reporting the incident, but otherwise they’re not sure who the man is or how to stop him.
“One thing that the bad guys and the criminal element don’t care for is light and exposure,” Headley said.
But the man in question didn't seem to mind the exposure and even appears to look right into the camera in some of the videos.
“And don’t approach the guy if there’s an encounter,” Headley said. “Walk away and give us a call.”
If you have any information on who this guy may be, you're urged to call Mishawaka police at 574-258-1679.
