Multiple road projects starting on July 8 in South Bend and Mishawaka

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- Two different projects affecting road traffic in South Bend and Mishawaka started on Monday, July 8.

The project in South Bend is designed to improve the ability of students to bike and walk to school.

The construction, part of the Safe Routes to School (SRTS) project, started adjacent to Our Lady of Hungary on the corner of Calvert and Chapin Streets.

The construction will occur in the area between Ewing Avenue, Calvert Street, Taylor Street, and Kemble Avenue.

The work is expected to be completed by early August.

In Mishawaka, the Cedar Street Bridge will be closed until December 1.

The first phase of the project includes a new bridge deck and riverwalk path under the bridge.

The detour involves sending drivers to the bridge on Main Street via Lincoln Way East and Mishawaka Avenue.

The second phase will start in April of next year.
