Coach Freeman, Fighting Irish land Alabama DB Devonta Smith from transfer portal Monday

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Notre Dame and head coach Marcus Freeman have landed one of the transfer portal's best defensive players on Monday when news broke that Junior defensive back DeVonta Smith is transferring from Alabama to Notre Dame for the 2025 season.
In 2024, Smith played in 10 games for the Crimson Tide. In a close game against South Carolina, Smith forced a fumble to help secure Alabama's 27-25 win at home on Oct. 12.
