Mishawaka police captain voluntarily demoted to lieutenant

MISHAWAKA, Ind. - Mishawaka Police Captain Eric Beckham is taking a voluntary demotion to lieutenant, Chief of Police Kenneth Witkowski confirmed.

The announcement comes after he and other officers pulled over Mishawaka Mayor Dave Wood's son for suspected drunk driving in October, though it is not clear if the decision is directly related to the incident.

Bodycam video from that night showed Beckham telling other officers he would handle the incident.

Police are still investigating what happened the night Wood's son was pulled over for an OWI but was ultimately let go.
