OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. - Officials in Michigan have issued a public health warning over Xylazine, a powerful and dangerous animal tranquilizer that is getting mixed into drugs, off the streets.
The sheriff in Oakland County notes that he is eager to get the substance out of the general public's hands and that the state plans to introduce legislation to further along this process.
Drug dealers have gotten their hands on the substance, beginning to mix it with pre-existing drugs such as heroine and fentanyl.
Xylazine makes life-saving measures such as Narcan less effective, adding to officials' concerns over the substance.
Lawmakers hope to have legislation introduced as early as next week.
