The MGCF was founded in 1978 with gifts from many citizens in amounts ranging from a few dollars to hundreds of thousands of dollars.
"Only the income generated by the investment of these gifts is used in grant making," the organization said.
"A gift to the community funds, such as those from Niles, Buchanan, and Cass County, serve these communities in perpetuity."
The foundation accepts grant proposals two times each year with submission dates of Aug. 1, and Feb. 1, with decisions usually available within one month.
"Each proposal [is] evaluated by the foundation for its potential value to the community and for the availability of funding resources," the MGCF said.
The foundation is also currently accepting scholarship applications until Saturday, March 15.
The application process for the scholarships is unique in that students only have to fill out one application to apply for up to 50+ scholarships.
"This is for students within our service area who attend Berrien Springs, Brandywine, Buchanan, Dowagiac, Edwardsburg, Marcellus, Niles or Ross Beatty," the organization said. "We also have three scholarship opportunities designed for adults and seniors who are pursuing an education in the medical field."
