UPDATE: The Michigan City Police Department reports dispatch received a call regarding someone being shot at the BP gas station at 1302 E Michigan Blvd. around 6:29 p.m. Sunday.

The victim, now identified as a 40-year-old Michigan City resident, was taken to MCPD for medical treatment by a witness.

The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds to their left leg. The victim was then taken to a local hospital for further treatment.

Police say the suspect left the scene in a vehicle which was captured by surveillance video and on multiple Flock Falcon license plate reading cameras.

Authorities were able to locate the suspect vehicle at a residence in the 500 block of Tremont Street.

Investigators then executed a search warrant at the residence which provided additional evidence associated with this investigation.

The suspect was detained and has pending criminal charges being filed by the La Porte County Prosecutor’s Office.

Detectives are continuing with this investigation. Numerous articles of evidence were collected from different locations, and multiple interviews continue to take place.

ORIGINAL STORY: MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. -- One person is in the hospital after a shooting at a BP gas station.

Michigan City Police responded to the business at 1302 East Michigan Boulevard just before 6:30 p.m. Central Time on Sunday.

Police say the victim came to the Michigan City Police Department after the shooting for help. The BP gas station is located diagonally across the street from the police department.

Officers say a suspect was detained for questioning on Sunday night. Police have not released any details about the victim nor the suspect. The victim's exact condition is still unknown.
