Mayflower Road bridge reopens after delay to construction fix
ABC 57 ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- After weeks of questions, the Mayflower Road bridge over Ardmore Trail is now reopened.
The bridge was set to reopen nearly two months ago, but the St. Joseph County Department of Infrastructure, Planning & Growth was notified of an issue with the finished construction. The county engineer says the northern approach slab to the bridge was not at the required elevation. The delay to reopen the bridge continued until the original contractors were able to schedule further construction.
Last week, the county engineer said the freezing temperatures delayed plans to put the final patch in place, despite contractors being ready. The Mayflower Road bridge was reopened to traffic by Wednesday morning.
Despite delays to the expected reopening, the project is still finished far ahead of time. The final completion date was originally scheduled for June of 2026.
