Marshall County Sheriff's deputies make arrest after finding destructive devices

MARSHALL COUNTY, Ind. -- Marshall County Sheriff's Department deputies responded to a battery complaint in the 100-block of Vandalia St. in Lapaz. During the investigation, officers observed items in plain view within the residence that qualified as "Destructive Devices" under Indiana state statute.

Deputies recovered several "Destructive Devices", and materials used to manufacture them during that warrant. Other recovered items were suspected methamphetamine, ammunition, firearms, high-capacity magazines, and gun powder with evidence of dealing meth.

An arrest was made for 48-year-old Scott Avila of Lapaz. Avila is being held at the Marshall County Jail for dealing in Methamphetamine Level 2 Felony, Possession of Methamphetamine Level 3 Felony, and Possession of Destructive Devices Level 5 Felony. Avila was given a $400,000 cash bond.

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by the South Bend Police Department Bomb Squad, the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department Drug Task Force, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
