Marshall County Historical Society & Museum holds annual fundraiser

PLYMOUTH, Ind. -- Marshall County Historical Society & Museum in Plymouth is holding the Annual Museum Sale Fundraiser this weekend from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., today through July 12. 

"This is one of our largest fundraisers of the year. It takes place during the downtown sidewalk sales and historic Plymouth, beautiful downtown and lots of other sales going on too," said Executive Director of the museum Sandy Garrison.

"It started out as very small in the beginning, almost kind of by accident, and just grew year after year. We ended up with some documents and some local memorabilia from a collector here in town, and that proved to be really popular, and we started to see the potential that people might really, you know, just enjoy this, this type of activity, and it allows us to participate in something that's already going on downtown, too."

The items on sale include vintage artifacts, rare books, and collectibles.

"We have just a huge variety of things, everything from artwork and books to toys, home decor, historic artifacts, some antiques. So there's really something for everyone," Garrison said.

"For the past few years, we've started asking actively for donations, and people have been exceedingly generous with items that you know, are too nice to just let go of, or things that they you know, know, other people would enjoy. And so we start taking those all year long."

All proceeds support the museum's exhibits, educational programs and technology.

"If folks in the local community donate things that you know, a lot of times, people will come in and say, 'hey, I have this set of dishes that you know belong to the family, and nobody in my family wants them anymore. They're too nice to just, you know, give away or throw away, you know, you do have any suggestions?'"

"The museum's a local treasure man, actually, the most of the museum is upstairs, so if you come to visit, we'll take you on a tour sometime. But supporting the museum is an excellent way to participate in the community. We are here as Marshall County's storytellers, both supporting the links to the past and looking forward to the future as well."

The Marshall County Historical Society & Museum is located at 123 N. Michigan St. in Plymouth.
