WHITLEY COUNTY, Ind. - - Whitley County Sheriff deputies were dispatched to a possible drowning near the Goose Lake public access site around 2:45 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
According to the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department, two Fairmount residents, 60-year-old Daniel Watson and 49-year-old Nicholas George had been fishing on the lake when Watson fell overboard causing their watercraft to take on water.
George was able to get Watson to the shore and call for help but despite lifesaving efforts, Watson was pronounced dead on scene.
"Life jackets were located in the capsized watercraft but were not in use at the time of the accident. Conservation officers remind the public to always wear a life jacket when participating in water-related activities," said the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.
