Man arrested in Starke County for swinging chainsaw at deputies

Starke County Sheriff\'s Department

STARKE COUNTY, Ind. -- One man is facing two felonies and a misdemeanor after Starke County prosecutors say he swung a chainsaw at sheriff's deputies.

This happened this past Thursday, April 2. Officials say deputies were investigating a complaint of a loose dog. After arriving on the scene, they found Jeremiah Fort standing in a doorway holding a chainsaw. After confirming a previous warrant for Fort's arrest, deputies approached Fort and asked him to stop as Fort continued to walk away. When they attempted to subdue him, prosecutors say Fort swung the chainsaw toward a deputy's face. One deputy was hurt as they worked to gain control of him. Prosecutors did not specify whether or not the chainsaw was running.

Fort faces multiple felony and misdemeanor charges of resisting law enforcement. The state has also filed to see the Habitual Offender penalty.
