Man accused of trying to smuggle narcotics into jail

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Mich. -- A man who was arrested following a traffic stop was allegedly trying to smuggle drugs into the jail, according to the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department.

A deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle around 2 a.m. Monday for an equipment violation.

The driver had an outstanding warrant and his license was suspended, deputies said.

The 28-year-old man was taken into custody and taken to the jail.

At the jail it was discovered he was attempting to smuggle narcotics, deputies said.

He faces preliminary charges of possession of meth, smuggling contraband into the jail and driving on a suspended license.
