ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- A St. Joseph County man is accused of ramming vehicles after a police pursuit.

60-year-old Henry Sims was arrested July 29 on charges of Resisting Law Enforcement, Resisting Law Enforcement, Criminal Recklessness, Driving While Suspend, and Reckless Driving.

According to court documents, a St. Joseph County officer spotted Sims driving on Cleveland Road. Officials say he was already on a "be on the lookout" watch in Elkhart County.

Sims allegedly sped off after the officer put on his lights and siren. Documents claim he drove recklessly, crossing the double yellow line, nearly hitting other cars, and speeding; Sims allegedly drove 99 mph in a 45 mph zone at one point.

Court documents claim he ran into a pickup truck at the intersection of Ironwood and Edison Roads in South Bend. The officer allegedly parked his police vehicle to pin Sims between him and the truck.

Sims allegedly backed his car into the police vehicle after the officer exited. He then allegedly drove back and forth, hitting both the police vehicle and truck about 20 times. Documents claim Sims and everyone in the vehicle stopped and put their hands out the window after about 2 minutes.

The front seat passenger was taken to the hospital on reported injuries.

A review of Sims's driving record shows he had a previous Driving While Suspended judgement in 2021.

His initial hearing is set for August 25.
