Local Navy veteran organizing donations for California wildfire victims
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- A local Navy veteran has come up with a way to help those impacted by the Los Angeles wildfire and is hoping members of the public will join in his cause.
Timothy Bennett is trying to organize a collection of RVs that will be stuffed with supplies and driven to the Los Angeles area where the supplies will be distributed, and the RVs will be used at temporary housing.
Message from Bennett:
"Over the last few days. Listen, we have 195 roughly RV and mobile home manufacturers in this area. We need to utilize that talent what they do every day, but bulk it up. Let's get some people who make decisions and get RVs on the road tomorrow, today and and then start planning to get mobile homes, you know, modular homes in six months, once the the debris is cleared out that they can place a mobile home there, because right now, they have nowhere to go.
And, unless they have family or friends who aren't affected by this, they have nowhere to go. I mean, hotels are booked everything. So what's the solution to that? Why can't we be this, the community that stands up and makes a difference in their lives?
If you make decisions for a company that that creates RVs or modular homes or mobile homes, you can change someone's life right now.
You can say yes to five units that you're making and send them out. We'll figure out transportation. We'll figure out logistics of how to get your product to Southern California. I've never done it before, but I'm positive I can do it. And you need to reach out to your competitors and be a teammate to them and say, why don't you supply five units?
Me? I used to live in Los Angeles, and I made hero props for TV shows and movies and stuff like that, and I worked with a lot of Prop masters and set designers and stuff like that.
In a way, it's part of my home.
It's definitely part of my life and my history. And you know, I'm I'm not really Tim Bennett, I'm everybody I've ever met in my life. So those people had a huge impact in my life, and now they man, it's about survival. I can't even imagine, I can't imagine what it would be like to just wanting to survive. Because wherever you may stay within that area, within Los Angeles, they're they're being evacuated too because of fires.
It's everywhere."
