Local family celebrates moving into Habitat for Humanity home

NOW: Local family celebrates moving into Habitat for Humanity home

MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- Habitat for Humanity welcomes Courtney Severeid and her daughter into their home. This is the 5th house being dedicated where a family can move into. It took the homeowner 1 1/2 years to see the final product.

The home is an affordable starter with a mortgage of $1,000 a month. To be qualified, you have to do over 200 hours of sweat hours, take classes about budgeting and how to take care of a house, and to be able to afford the mortgage by having a stable job.

Habitat for Humanity's goal and plan is to finish at least 100 houses in 5 years, and they are getting ready to build 14 houses near the Kennedy park neighborhood in South Bend.
