Lincoln Township K9 Echo retires after six dedicated years of service

BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. -- The Lincoln Township Police Department announced on Facebook Friday evening that K9 Echo is officially retiring, effective April 4, after six years of dedicated service.

"Echo joined our department in May 2019, after a successful community effort to raise the necessary funds for her training and hiring," the LTPD said. "She arrived from Poland, and a special naming process followed, with local elementary schools in the Lakeshore district voting on four name options. The unanimous choice was Echo, a name that perfectly suited this hardworking Belgian Malinois."

The officers who worked with her say, during her time with the department, Echo was a highly skilled member of the team, certified in patrol, tracking, apprehensions, and narcotic detection.

"Her commitment to the job and her handler was unwavering, and she worked tirelessly to help protect our community," the LTSO said.

"As Echo transitions into retirement, she will be able to enjoy her well-earned rest with her handler, Sgt. Burrow, and his family. We invite the community to join us in expressing our deepest gratitude for her contributions. Thank you, K9 Echo, for your years of service and dedication to keeping us safe!"
