ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- Thursday evening, the Liberty Greene Fire Territory held both the second and third community meetings over the upcoming merger between the Liberty Greene Fire Territory and Centre Township.
This merger comes as Greene Township currently only has basic life support (BLS) and the eastern part of Greene Township has no ambulances.
Currently, many townships south of South Bend have to contract out to South Bend FD for paramedic services.
The townships set to combine are Liberty Township, Greene Township, Centre Township, and the town of North Liberty.
"The goal is still to get to advanced life support." Said Municipal Advisor, Steve Dalton. "But it may not be on day one. It may take a little time, and the county bought you at least one year to try to get to advanced life support with their delay in the canceling the contract with South Bend."
