UPDATE: St Joseph County confirms 40-year-old Adam Spencer has been taken into custody after a SWAT situation on the 1000 block of Howard Street in Mishawaka. 

After officials obtained enough probable cause, detectives with St. Joseph County Police showed up in the 1000 block to arrest Spencer on preliminary charges of Strangulation, Domestic Violence, and Burglary. 

When officers knocked on the door, Spencer opened it, realizing police were there and immediately closed the door. Spencer ran from the back of the home and barricaded himself inside a camper.  

Due to the circumstances and comments made during the situation, Metro SWAT was called to assist. 

After approximately an hour, Spencer exited the camper and was taken into custody. No one was injured during this incident. 

Spencer is being booked into the St. Joseph County Jail on preliminary charges of Burglary, Domestic Violence, Strangulation and Resisting Law Enforcement. 

This case will be forwarded to the St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office for formal charging. 

UPDATE: ABC57 crews were told on scene the suspect has been detained. 

ABC57 will continue to work on getting more information. 

MISAHWAKA, Ind. -- There's a large police presence in the 1000 block of Howard Street.

St. Joseph County Police detectives initially responded to the area to continue an ongoing investigation. The situation has since warranted additional assistance from Mishawaka Police Department and Metro SWAT.

Residents are asked to avoid the area at this time.
