La Porte Jaycees cancel craft fair and fireworks, postpone Fourth of July parade

LA PORTE, Ind.—The La Porte Jaycees announced Wednesday that the annual Fourth of July celebrations will not take place as planned due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Both the arts and crafts fair on June 27 and the fireworks celebration on July 3 have been cancelled.

The 4th of July Parade will be postponed and the new date will coincide with the Sunflower Fair in September.

More details regarding the parade will be announced during the coming weeks.

According to the La Porte Jaycees, the fireworks and parade events typically bring over 50,000 people together.

Organizers decided to cancel the events and postpone the parade due to the uncertainty surrounding mass gatherings in the wake of COVID-19.

This marks the second year in a row that the fireworks display has been canceled. In 2019, a worker injury caused the event's cancellation.
