LAPORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- The La Porte County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of 65-year-old Curtis Heaphy, an inmate at the La Porte County Jail.
Police say that Heaphy was found unresponsive during a routine check of his assigned cell on Sunday morning.
Jail staff attempted began resuscitation efforts until EMS arrived, then he was transported to the hospital.
He was pronounced dead at 3:25 a.m.
Heaphy was taken to the jail for intimidation and invasion of privacy on June 16, after he received medical clearance from the hospital.
Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division will investigate.
