Knox man speeds off with Snapchat date trapped in vehicle

Porter County Jail

KNOX, Ind. -- A 21-year-old Knox man was arrested earlier this months after he allegedly trapped a Snapchat date in his vehicle before speeding off and refusing to let her out, causing the victim to jump from the moving car.

Authorities say the call came in around 1:37 a.m. on July 18 in reference to a female who had jumped from a moving vehicle.

The victim told a Valparaiso police officer that she had only know 21-year-old Damion M. Stewart, of Knox, for two days and that the two had been communicating via Snapchat.  That night was the first night the two had ever met in person.

"[The victim] advised that she was contacted by Stewart through Snapchat and told her he was intoxicated. [The victim] stated she met with Stewart just outside of the leasing building at 1405 Laporte Ave (Uptown East apartments) and entered the passenger seat to provided him with a bottle of water," the arrest report states.

The victim told police she kept the front passenger door slightly open, but when she got in, Stewart sped off and the front passenger door closed shut.

She allegedly told Stewart to stop the car at least five times so she could get out, but he continued driving what she guessed was between 20 and 30mph.

"[The victim] then stated that as the vehicle attempted to enter Lincolnway, Stewart hit a curb and traveled eastbound towards the roundabout," authorities said.

"[The victim] then opened the front passenger door and jumped out of the vehicle just before it could enter the roundabout."

Stewart was arrested and charged with felony Criminal Confinement where a vehicle is used.
