ISP investigating death of inmate at Marshall County Jail

MARSHALL COUNTY, Ind. -- Indiana State Police conducted an investigation into the death of an inmate at the Marshall County Jail, according to the Marshall County Sheriff's Office.

Inmates at the jail notified staff at 4 p.m. on July 25 that there was a medical emergency in one of the cells.

Jail officers discovered Zachary Anderson, 36, in distress.

Jail staff began resuscitation efforts.

Plymouth Police, Plymouth Fire and Marshall County deputies arrived and continued to attempt to resuscitate Anderson.

Anderson was transported to Plymouth Hospital, then transferred to Memorial Hospital.

Anderson was pronounced deceased on July 27th.

Indiana State Police conducted an investigation and preliminary reports indicate Anderson died as a result of asphyxiation by hanging. His manner of death was suicide.

Reports from the Indiana State Police and the St. Joseph County Coroner's Office are being sent to the Marshall County Prosecutor's Office for review.
