NEW PRAIRE, Ind. -- Christopher Fleeger, a New Prairie High School wrestling assistant coach who previously filed a battery complaint against Notre Dame football coach Marcus Freeman, is now under investigation, according to state and school officials.

IHSAA Sports Director Jason Wille confirmed to ABC57 that the state is investigating Fleeger. The New Prairie United School Corporation also confirmed it has opened its own investigation, as required by state by-laws.

Wille said the investigation involves the New Prairie wrestling program. However, district officials have not disclosed the specific nature of the probe, citing that it remains open and ongoing.

The investigation follows an incident on Jan. 3, when Fleeger accused Freeman of battery. Fleeger claimed Freeman pushed him with both hands while Freeman was attending his son’s wrestling match at Mishawaka High School.

Mishawaka police and the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office reviewed surveillance video from the alleged incident and determined no battery occurred. That investigation was subsequently closed.

At this time, it is unclear whether the current investigation into Fleeger is directly related to the January incident or involves other matters.

ABC57 will continue to follow this developing story and provide updates as more information becomes available.
