SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- With Hurricane Francine making landfall in Louisiana on Wednesday, you may be wondering if Hurricane Francine will be similar to what we saw in early July with Hurricane Beryl.
Hurricane Beryl brought Michiana several inches of rain from July 9-10th. Beryl was the first tropical activity this area has seen since Alberto in 2018.
Beryl dropped 3-8" of rainfall across Michiana within 12-18 hours which led to flooding and river rises across Michiana.
Winds also gusted to 45 mph which brought down trees given a very saturated ground at the time.
Well, now after more than two weeks of no rain and drought taking hold of the region, we could use a tropical system to bring us relief.
Former Hurricane Francine unfortunately will not bring us that relief though.
A large ridge of high pressure in the upper levels will stall Francine near Memphis, Tennessee.
This will prevent any of the rain from reaching Michiana, so more dry weather is expected.
Drought will only continue to worsen as the heat dome strengthens into the end of September.
