Hannah Hidalgo history continues to be written
NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- Star Notre Dame freshman Hannah Hidalgo continues to outdo herself, collecting three major honors after her stellar performance against UConn Saturday.
Hidalgo was named Naismith Women's College Player of the Week Monday after her 34-point performance against UConn, where the Irish knocked off the No. 8 Huskies 82-67 in Connecticut.
The 34 points Hidalgo scored broke Notre Dame's single-game freshman scoring record. The previous record was set by Michelle Marciniak in 1991 with 33 points.
Hidalgo also received her ninth ACC Rookie of the Week honors Monday, which now ties for the second-most ACC Rookie of the Week honors all-time with Tracy Connor (Wake Forest) and Elizabeth Williams (Duke). Ta'Niya Latson (Florida State) holds the record at 10.
Tuesday, Hidalgo earned her third individual award of the week. The USBWA Tamika Catchings National Freshman of the Week award. Hidalgo also received this honor on November 21 and December 27.
The fearless freshman's 97 steals and 5.11 steals per game lead the nation. Hidalgo's 24.4 points per game leads the ACC and her 464 points rank her fourth in scoring nationally.
In addition to these honors, Hidalgo has previous been named ACC Player of the Week twice, AP Basketball Player of the Week once, and she holds spots on both the Nancy Lieberman Top 10 (nation's best point guard) and Wooden Award Midseason Top 25.
There's no sign of the freshman slowing down.
Next up, the No. 14 Irish travel to Georgia Tech Thursday at 7 p.m.
